This paper aims to address methodological issues and limited coverage of providers’ environmental scores, which are increasingly employed by investors, financial institutions and policy makers for the corporate environmental assessment. Authors find that the unexplained component of the regression is heterogeneous across providers and can be attributed to a judgmental factor related to the providers’ different focus on financial risk or environmental impact.
